INTERIOR DESIGN PORTFOLIO

Hello, I'm Shelby
A little about me...
Up until my freshman year of college, my realistic goal was to be a Special Needs teacher for K - 12. I never thought I would be brave enough to try to pursue my dream goal, to design homes and spaces that are crafted for the needs of special needs kids. I can’t tell you exactly how I got to the point in my life where I applied for the Interior Design Program at UNT, but my experiences in it have made me very proud that I did. This internship and my education have changed my career focus and opened my eyes to the possibilities of what doors design can open. I found that I could chase my original goals of bettering lives to a broader extent through Education Design.
Classrooms are spaces to build a community and create our future. While teachers carry the biggest load of creating these spaces, I want to be able to support them through design.
In my professional career, I want to focus on ways to create learning environments that address comfortability for all end users, and learning environments that support mental health through wellness and community. I want to study the idea that improving comfort, community, and mental health in the classroom can improve the experience, attendance, and success of students.
